A “horrific” stabbing that left a woman fighting for her life could mean road closures until Friday, police have warned.

Police and forensics teams are scouring Castle Green in Gale Street, Dagenham, and the surrounding area after a 29-year-old woman was found in Krithia Road, Dagenham, with life-threatening stab wounds at 10.30pm on Monday.

In the early hours of this morning, police tweeted warning road several cordons could be in place until Friday, including a closure in both directions in Goresbrook Road, Dagenham, between Ellerton Road and Flamstead Road.

Castle Green remains closed off, as well as the subway near Renwick Road, Dagenham, as police continue to appeal for witnesses.

No arrests have been made and police have no description of the attacker, who the Homicide and Major Crime Command’s DCI Gary Holmes said has committed a “horrific” crime.

Yesterday he urged people who may have information to come forward.

“We know a male cyclist spoke to the ambulance operator and two women also helped paramedics,” he said. “We are anxious to trace them as soon as possible as potential witnesses so they can help us piece together what happened.

“This was a horrific attack on a young woman who has been left with very serious injuries and is fighting for her life in hospital. If you know anything please contact us.”
