The "treasured" minibus of a primary school has been stolen and its vital parts stripped, depriving pupils of valuable days out.

Thieves broke into the car park of Southwood Primary School in Dagenham on November 17 and stole its "treasured" minibus, the school confirmed on Wednesday (December 13).

It was later found dumped miles away in Tilbury having been stripped of its engine, doors and seats.

Southwood pupils, 600 in number, are consequently missing out on educational trips, days out and sporting activities, the school said.

Headteacher Scott Halliwell has appealed for donations in light of this.

“For people to support us in this and help us get back up and running, would mean the world to us,” Mr Halliwell said.

The appeal was set up by physical education teacher Stewart Stevens, who said any support would be greatly appreciated.

"Lets put a smile back on the faces of our children," Mr Stevens added.
