Londoners are reported to be turning to some creative forms of transport to get around the city during the busy London 2012 Olympics.

While an increase is bike orders is perhaps to be expected, the surge in sales of skateboards, in-line skates and scooters shows Londoners are looking for inventive ways to keep moving while public transport and roads are clogged up.

Amazon.co.uk said sales of skateboards were 167 per cent higher in London than this time last year, rollerblades 140 per cent higher and scooters 36 per cent higher.

Electric bikes have seen a 100 per cent increase and mountain bikes sales are 42 per cent higher.

The website’s sports and outdoors manager Julian Monaghan said: “It appears that Londoners are looking for creative and active ways to get around the capital during this busy few weeks.

“It’s a great time to try alternative ways of travelling to work or out in the city and perhaps many who give it a go at this point will continue to enjoy it long after the summer of sport.”
