More than 300 Muslims and non-Muslims came together to enjoy a feast to mark the end of fasting period Ramadan.
Police officers and community groups joined Muslim residents at the Iftar 2012 event on July 24 at the newly built centre in Victoria Road, Barking.
Borough commander Andy Ewing attended, along with Insp Richard Thomas of community and partnership policing and Safer Neighbourhoods officers.
Haji Mohammed Siddique, chairman of the Al Madina Barking Mosque, said: “The sharing of the meal at the fast with over 300 people, of whom 50 per cent were non-Muslims, was especially rewarding and the evening had a very special atmosphere.”
Insp Thomas said: “I had a very interesting evening in good company and feel that the new facility will make a very positive addition to community services on the borough.”
Teenagers were forced to flee from their beds after their family car erupted in flames which licked at the front of their home following a suspected arson attack.
