A programme offering young people at risk of offending the chance to improve their community and take part in activities is up for a national award.

Community Space Challenge has been nominated in the best environment project category of the National Lottery Awards 2012.

The project runs clean-up and make-over events on the Thames View and Gascoigne estates so youngsters at risk of offending can improve their local area.

It also offers them somewhere safe to learn new skills, take part in activities, get help with school and advice on training and work.

Those behind the initiative want people to help them win the award by voting before July 22. Call 0844 836 9690 or go to lottery goodcauses.org.uk/awards
