Council members have paid their respects to a headteacher by marking her sudden death with a minute’s silence.
Councillors and staff Wednesday’s Assembly meeting at Barking Town Hall stood in silence after the leader of the council paid tribute to Helen Collins, 58, who had been head teacher of Five Elms Primary School, Wood Lane since April 2007.
Cllr Liam Smith said: ”The sad death of Helen Collins is deeply upsetting for Five Elms School and for all of us in Barking and Dagenham. Helen was a wonderful headteacher, who put the children and families at her school at the front of all her decision making.”
Children had been told about the sad news on Tuesday.
Five Elms Primary School received a ‘good’ rating in its latest Ofsted inspection. The community school accommodates 498 pupils aged three - 11.
A commuter allegedly filmed hurling racist abuse on the London Underground was in court today.
Hundreds are expected to attend an annual exhibition promoting some of east London’s top businesses.
Wasteful spending “would not be repeated today” claimed the council after it was revealed to have spent £10,000 on flowers over five years.
