British Transport Police would like to speak to this man

Police want to speak to this man after a member of staff was racially abused on board a train travelling to and from Barking.

The member of staff asked a passenger to remove his feet from the seats on the 11.23am London Overground Barking to Gospel Oak service.

“When asked a second time to remove his feet from the seats, the man, who boarded the train at Haringay Green Lanes, used offensive racist comments towards the victim, a black man, before leaving the train at Gospel Oak,” PC Roger Andrews, of British Transport Police’s Barking Neighbourhood Policing Team, said.

The man was seen again that day on the 12.10pm Gospel Oak to Barking service and once again had his feet on the seats. The member of staff asked him to remove his feet and was subjected to more verbal abuse, alongside a female passenger who interjected.

The man left the train at Wanstead Park at around 12.30pm.

PC Andrews said: “The victim was understandably left shocked and shaken by the experience. No one should be subjected to abuse of any kind when travelling on the rail network, and we are working to identify the man responsible.”

Police believe the man in the photo has key information relating to the incident and is urging anyone who thinks they know him to get in contact.
