It will be “business as usual” for Redbridge Police during the Olympics, according to the borough commander.

Detective Superintendent Sue Williams said the event would impact on normal services as little as possible.

She added: “During the Games you are likely to see an increased police visibility in the area, as part of Wanstead Flats will be used as one of the MPS’s briefing centres for officers deployed on the Games.

“This is in addition to the officers who will be policing the borough’s normal business.

“My operations office has helped to plan how we can police Redbridge borough during the Olympic period to keep staffing levels high and to minimise any impact on our policing responsibilities.”

Officers’ shift patterns will be changed to have the maximum number of officers and Police Community Support Officers on duty as possible.

Local police will also be supported by volunteer officers and the Central London Reserves.

Det Supt Williams added: “I would like to reassure you that the Redbridge communities are at the heart of our policing and we will work in partnership to provide a safe environment during the Games.”
