Dagenham shop assistant ‘suspicious of customers’ after burglary involving mobility scooter
17:00 22 September 2016
A shop assistant whose pharmacy was targeted by a group of burglars – which included a man on a mobility scooter – has admitted that she now feels suspicious of customers.
The same four men are believed to be behind the raids on Pak’s Hair and Cosmetic Centre in Dagenham Heathway and Kry BA Chemists in Goresbrook Road.
Ana Hughes, who works at the latter, today told the Post: “I have customers come in for their medicine and I don’t know if it was them that robbed us.”
She believes that the criminals might be familiar with the business, as they only had between five and ten seconds to steal the cash drawer until the burglar alarm sounded.
The pharmacy was targeted in the early hours of May 25. CCTV footage shows two men using a metal bar to dent the front shutters before removing the cash till and passing it on to a man on the mobility scooter, who sped off up the road.
Ana, 49, who had not seen the CCTV showing the unusual getaway vehicle until today, gasped when she was shown the footage by a Post reporter.
Pak’s Hair and Cosmetic Centre was targeted by the same group between 1.37am and 1.48am on August 9.
A shopworker, who asked not to be named, believes that other shops could also be targeted.
“I can promise you they will do more damage, they will do it again,” he said.
“People have the cheek to do whatever they like. It’s bad.”
Police hope to speak to the four men who are captured on the CCTV footage.
Suspect one [image ref 223669] is described as a medium build white man with a dark beard, who was wearing a black cap, blue top with writing, black tracksuit bottoms, black trainers and light coloured gloves.
Suspect two [image ref 223700] was driving the dark-coloured mobility scooter and was wearing dark clothes. He is white and bald.
Suspect three [image ref 223701] is a white man who was wearing a dark blue hoodie and white trainers, while suspect four [image ref 223702], also white, was wearing a dark grey hoodie, blue jeans and white trainers.
