Driver bailed after pedestrian killed in Dagenham

A driver who was arrested following the death of a man who was hit by a car in Dagenham has been bailed.

The 27-year-old was held on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol following the crash on Whalebone Lane North on Saturday.

A 47-year-old man died at the scene just before 2.30am.

Next of kin have been informed. Police await formal identification, and a post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.

The arrested man will return to a police station at a later date.

Anyone who witnessed the crash should call officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Chadwell Heath on 020 8597 4874.
