Racma Macauley, from Sarah Bonnell School in Deanery Road, was nominated by her head teacher Sarah Jacobs for a Rudolph Walker Role Model Award.

Ms Jacobs said: “We have nominated Racma as she has embraced her new role as Assistant Head Girl and been extremely proactive.

“She has given talks to parents and new Year Six students on induction evenings, was an amazing compere at tour Summer concert - and generally has grown in confidence role modelling all those attributes and qualities we would wish for our students.”

The actor, who played Patrick Trueman in the BBC1 soap, presented Racma with her award on Sunday July 8 at the Millfield Theatre in north London alongside His Excellency Garvin Nicholas, the High Commissioner of Trinidad and Taobago.

Rudolph, who established the awards last year, said: “Too much media exposure is given to leaders of gangs or the guy who picks up a gun, commits crimes, and gains notoriety.

“Very little exposure is given to our role models, thos who are doing something positive within their school or community.”

As part of his role model project, Patrick also arranged for an acting mentor to support groups of young people to go head-to-head for the Rudolph Walker Inter-School Drama Award.

The girls at Sarah Bonnell worked with Martina Laird who has been in various TV programmes such as Casualty, My Family, Doctors, and Shameless.
