Generous pupils have visited the Salvation Army to hand over presents they have collected for them.

Youngsters from Ripple Primary School visited the centre opposite the school’s Ripple Road site last week to present shoeboxes full of gifts.

The reverse advent calendar concept saw pupils bring an item in each day for a week to give to those less fortunate than themselves.

Bibi Dookhith, from the school’s family support team, said: “It’s the second year we’ve done this, and it was successful. The children were really getting into it, and decorated their shoeboxes in tissue paper and wrapping paper.”

Pupils from all year groups at both the Ripple Road and Suffolk Road sites took part in the scheme, which saw 35 boxes handed over.

The Salvation Army will now work with social services to identify those most in need of receiving the gifts.
