The launch at James Campbell Primary School introduced pupils to bMoneywize, a game that uses maths to boost children’s ability to make sound financial decisions in the future.

The game’s creator, Dagenham’s Dr Arinola Araba, said the day showcased the pupils’ skills.

“It was fantastic – the kids were teaching the adults and taking charge,” she said. “I expect the game helps children save money. If kids have a game they’re more willing to learn because they don’t feel like they’re being told what to do.”

Dr Araba believes that decisions taken by players in the game cultivate the skills needed to be responsibile adults.

“Decisions in the game can transpire into real life,” she said. “It makes them think about responsibility and the way they spend. And if people learn to put a bit of money away they would have enough for a rainy day.”
