Sixth form students from across the borough were given a glimpse of working life as part of International Women’s Day.
Pupils from Robert Clack, Jo Richardson and Sydney Russell schools shadowed female senior managers at Barking and Dagenham Council and Elevate East London, a joint venture between the council and digital technology firm Agilisys.
The 11 young women were shown how each organisation worked and got a taste of the challenges staff deal with every day, ending the day with speeches from employees.
“I found today really inspirational and all the women empowering,” said Jo Richardson Community School pupil Jennifer Taborda da Silver.
The scheme, organised by the council’s work experience provider, Trident, aimed to provide positive female role models for women in the borough.
“I hope the students will be able to apply what they have learned today in the classroom,” said Cllr Evelyn Carpenter, cabinet member for educational attainment and school improvement.
