Kind-hearted friends of a cancer victim have unleashed a £200,000 fundraising battle to give her pioneering treatment in the US.

To send a link to this page to a friend, you must be logged in.

They have turned to Facebook to give mum-of-three Rebecca Warren, 31, the chance to receive treatment not available here to destroy evasive cancerous cells inside her spine.

The so-called “Bec’s Angels” are planning to auction Chelsea and West Ham memorabilia, gloves worn by Frank Bruno and boxer Kevin Mitchell’s own shorts to raise cash for the treatment at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

The friends have planned half a dozen Christmas fundraisers including a fancy dress walk, while her daughters are throwing a hot chocolate party at her home in Dagenham tomorrow night.

Her sister Jakki, 41, said: “Rebecca is such a caring and loving person.

“To be struck down with this illness has been devastating.

“The community spirit and the generosity of friends, family and people we do not know has been overwhelming.”

Rebecca’s family is also setting up a charity to help her and other people who suffer from the same type of spinal cancer called ependymoma.

Rebecca was diagnosed with a spine tumour in 2006 but despite three operations and radio therapy it has not been possible to eradicate it.

The tumour is difficult to treat because the cancerous cells break off, then float inside the spine before attaching themselves to its walls and forming new growths.

Jakki set up a Facebook page to raise funds for Rebecca last week after her sister was told nothing more could be done for her.

She said: “The doctor said to my sister ‘I’m sorry Rebecca, we have done all we can and I’m afraid there is no further treatment available for you’, which was devastating.”

Around 100 people are expected to attend the hot chocolate night at 180 Goresbrook Road, Dagenham, from 4pm on Thursday.

The charity auction is to take place at the Rendezvous bar and grill in The High Road, Chadwell Heath, on December 29.

A West Ham spokesman said: “We wish every success to the campaign to raise much-needed funds for Rebecca Warren, to enable her to hopefully have pioneering treatment.”
