Valence House Museum has been recognised for the quality of its heritage education.

The manor house, which frequently hosts school visits, have retained the Sandford Award it was first awarded five years ago.

The award assesses education programmes at heritage sites, focusing on formal, curriculum-linked education opportunities offered to schools.

Judges praised the “fun, creative and memorable learning experiences” on offer at the Becontree Avenue, Dagenham site.

Cllr Saima Ashraf, deputy leader and cabinet member for community leadership and engagement, said: “Valence House Museum offers excellent educational opportunities and a fascinating day out for the borough’s youngsters.

“As a borough we are proud of our rich history and the education programme is a wonderful opportunity for young people to learn about and take pride in our past.”
