Dagenham ‘football hub’ included in plans to improve sports facilities

A tennis champion and new 3G pitch could inspire residents to get active after councillors approved plans to improve sports facilities.
Provisions for football, cricket, hockey, rugby union and tennis could be transformed if funding bids based on the updated playing pitch strategy are successful.
The document, approved at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday night, notes the generally poor quality of pitches in the area and explores how to increase funding and up participation.
One plan is to create a football hub at Parsloes Park in Dagenham, with a brand new 3G artificial turf pitch and new changing facilities. There are also proposals to transform a surplus of adult football pitches into mini pitches and children’s playing fields.
Deputy leader Cllr Saima Ashraf commented: “We want to build on this sporting legacy and ensure it continues, which is why we are looking to work with the FA and Sport England to build a regional football hub here.”
