Man killed in collision with car in Dagenham

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to a fatal collision in Dagenham in the early hours of Saturday, March 18.

A 47-year-old man has died after a collision with a car in Whalebone Lane North.

Police and the London Ambulance Service were called shortly after 1.45am but the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene at 2,24am.

Next of kin have been informed. Police await formal identification, and a post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.

The 27-year-old driver of the car stopped at the scene. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol. He has been taken into custody.

Road closures were put in place, but the road has now fully re-opened.
