The borough’s Mayor kicked off proceedings at the opening of a new gym.

Cllr Eileen Keller cut the ribbon at the official launch of a new branch of The Gym Group on Monday morning.

The 24-hour fitness hub in Dagenham leisure park has created up to 14 new jobs and offers a no-frills membership for up to £16.99 a month.

Carly Martin, assistant general manager at the Cook Road branch, described it as “one of the most popular times of year for gyms”, adding: “We can’t wait to meet our new members who want to stay in shape over the festive period.”
