A well-known supermarket chain is set to move into the vacant space left by the departure of a popular hardware store in Chadwell Heath, creating 250 new jobs.

Asda supermarket will fill the void left by the departure of B&Q at a retail park in Whalebone Lane, Chadwell Heath.

Works are planned to create new improved access, car parking and an upgraded food store the new store, which is set to open by the end of this year.

Oliver Jones, Senior Property Communications Manager for Asda, said: “We’re really excited about becoming part of the local community in Chadwell Heath.

“As part of our commitment to Chadwell Heath we’ll be creating up to 250 new jobs and investing in the local community through our Community Life programme.

“We look forward to introducing ourselves and our products to the local community over the coming months as well as providing information about the jobs available.”

Another new shopping outlet, adjacent to the future supermarket and filling the space left by high-tech retailer Comet will be B&M Stores.

Hermione Mackrill, portfolio director for site owner Land Securities said: “It is great news we are able to bring two excellent new retailers into the area which will be transformed following our works.”
