Hundreds of women are set to take part in a midnight walk in aid of Saint Francis Hospice.
More than 350 women have signed up for the 10km sponsored Star Trek walk in Romford Town Centre on Saturday.
Among those joining the walk is hospice clinical nurse specialist Eleanor Singh, who has worked at Saint Francis Hospice in Havering-atte-Bower, near Romford, for 10 years and cares for patients living in Barking and Dagenham.
‘Touched’
Eleanor joined the walk last year and said: “It was a good evening and I thought I’d take part again as it’s easy to do and a way to give something back.
“Last year I was touched to see how a relative of a patient I supported appreciated that staff got involved to raise money for patient care.”
One of the people Eleanor cares for is Gary Turner, from Barking, who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, sarcoma, last May.
Gary, 45, told the Post: “Eleanor has been fantastic, if I’m in pain, have a problem or want to talk to her, I can call and she will visit if appropriate or liaise with the community nursing team.
“Thanks to treatment and support from my family and Saint Francis Hospice I’m feeling more positive.”
n If you’d like to join the walk places are £15 each and can be booked online at the Saint Francis Hospice website www.sfh.org.uk, by emailing walk@sfh.org.uk or by calling 01708 771427.
