Flowers and heartfelt tributes have been left at the scene of an accident which killed a 16-year-old pedestrian and a driver.

The girl, named locally as Lauren Brown, and a man died following a collision at the junction of Whalebone Lane South and Crow Lane in Chadwell Heath at around 9.50pm on Friday.

It is believed Lauren was walking when she was struck by the man driving a van - although police have yet to confirm the circumstances surrounding the accident.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and she was taken by ambulance to the Royal London Hospital in White Chapel with head and abdominal injuries. She died some time later.

Flowers have been left at the scene together with a number of touching messages for Lauren. One reads: “You are one girl I will never forget. I only saw you last Friday and I am so glad I only have good memories to remember... You are so beautiful Lauren. I can’t express how much you will be missed girl.”

Another says: “The thought of you not being there for the rest of my life is heartbreaking... Lauren you mean the world to me, thank you for always being there for me when I needed a shoulder to cry on... Molly x.”

It is thought Lauren lived in the local area.
