A woman has been left with life-threatening stab wounds after a savage attack, and detectives are urging the people who stopped to help her to come forward to aid their hunt for her assailant.
Police and forensics teams are investigating Castle Green in Gale Street, Dagenham, after the victim was found unconscious and suffering from stab wounds in Krithia Road, Dagenham, at 10.30pm last night.
Paramedics took her to an east London hospital, where she is in a life-threatening condition.
No arrests have been made and there is no description of her attacker, but detectives are urging people who helped the woman to come forward.
DCI Holmes said: “We know a male cyclist spoke to the ambulance operator and two women also helped paramedics.
“We are anxious to trace them as soon as possible as potential witnesses so they can help us piece together what happened.”
He continued: ““This was a horrific attack on a young woman who has been left with very serious injuries and is fighting for her life in hospital. If you know anything please contact us.”
Officers tweeted about the assault last night warning people to avoid the area where cordons remain in place.
Police have cordoned off the subway near Renwick Road, Dagenham, as well as Castle Green as forensics teams investigate.
Goresbrook Road, Dagenham, is also closed between Ellerton Road and Flamstead Road.
