Transfer news: Arsenal are considering bringing in a new midfielder
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes he has enough cover to deal with the imminent sale of Alex Song to Barcelona.
Yet again the Gunners are starting the season after selling two key players as they lost Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas last year and have sold Robin van Persie and the Cameroon midfielder ahead of this campaign.
“We have [Jack] Wilshere coming back, I believe in one-and-a-half months,” Wenger said.
“We have [Abou] Diaby back, we have [Tomas] Rosicky not far away and we might bring another midfielder in as well.
“You have to be patient a little bit [over any new signings].”
One player who is almost certain to follow van Persie and Song out of the door is Nicklas Bendtner, who admitted that he has turned down offers.
“He is likely to move, yes, but there is no deal done at all,” Wenger revealed.
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has played down suggestions he wants Rafael Benitez to be the club’s new head coach and claimed the delegation that visited England yesterday was hoping to secure an exchange deal with Manchester City for Edinson Cavani.
