The Frenchman joined the Gunners after Euro 2012
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has explained why he signed Olivier Giroud, believing that he is a real centre forward.
The Gunners brought in the Montpellier striker, who fired the French club to the Ligue 1 title last season and Wenger thinks the forward’s intelligence will benefit the side.
“He [Giroud] has a good, strong body and I feel he has qualities that are needed in our squad,” the boss explained. “Hopefully he can show that.
“I bought him because he’s a real centre forward and he is an intelligent player.
“He is a player who developed late and I feel he can integrate in the way we play football and add something to the way we play because he is good in the air.”
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has played down suggestions he wants Rafael Benitez to be the club’s new head coach and claimed the delegation that visited England yesterday was hoping to secure an exchange deal with Manchester City for Edinson Cavani.
