Andrey Arshavin was disappointed after Russia crashed out of Euro 2012
Arsenal forward Andrey Arshavin has apologised to Russia fans after his country were a shock departure from the Euro 2012 group stages.
Russia started brightly, beating the Czech Republic 4-1 but then drew with co-hosts Poland before crashing out courtesy of a 1-0 defeat to Greece.
“The result we showed disappointed us and, obviously, the fans,” Arshavin told Russian channel 100 TV.
“As the captain, I want to apologize on behalf of myself personally and of the players for the result we showed.”
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has played down suggestions he wants Rafael Benitez to be the club’s new head coach and claimed the delegation that visited England yesterday was hoping to secure an exchange deal with Manchester City for Edinson Cavani.
