Transfer news: Robin Van Persie could be nearing the exit door at the Emirates
Robin van Persie has been left out of Arsenal’s pre-season Asia tour, with Man Utd, Man City and Juventus all reportedly lodging bids for the striker.
The Gunners captain has only 12 months to run on his current contract at the Emirates, and announced his desire to leave the club after a meeting with Arsene Wenger and Chief Executive Ivan Gazidis last month.
“I’ve thought long and hard about it, but I have decided not to extend my contract,” the 28-year-old Dutchman wrote on his website.
Arsenal are expected to hold out for bids of upwards of £25million for last season’s PFA Player of the year.
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has played down suggestions he wants Rafael Benitez to be the club’s new head coach and claimed the delegation that visited England yesterday was hoping to secure an exchange deal with Manchester City for Edinson Cavani.
