Barcelona’s Sergio Busquets has fuelled speculation linking the Catalan club with Alex Song by saying he would welcome the Arsenal midfielder at Camp Nou.

Song has proved a revelation in the heart of Arsenal’s midfield in recent seasons.

But with his contract expiring in 2014, Barcelona think they could persuade the Gunners to let him go.

The Spanish giants have reportedly identified the Cameroon international as an ideal defensive midfield replacement for the recently departed Seydou Keita.

And Spain star Busquets has been full of praise for the Arenal man, saying he would relish more competition for places at the club.

“Song is a very good player - young, a hard worker, with lots of physical power,” said Busquets.

“Another player in my position would be welcome,” he added.
