Transfer news: Feyenoord and Excelsior would receive a sell on fee from the Gunners if they sold Robin van Persie

Dutch clubs Feyenoord and Excelsior are set to benefit if Arsenal decide to sell star striker Robin van Persie.

The Dutchman revealed on Wednesday that he was not going to sign a new deal with the north London club, prompting speculation he was going to move to Manchester City or Manchester United with European giants Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus also interested.

“It is a training fee,” Feyenoord technical director Martin van Geel said. “We really see this as a bonus.

“We are not hoping that Van Persie leaves, but it would be an excellent bonus for Feyenoord if he does take steps to leave Arsenal before his contract expires.”

Excelsior managing director Simon Kelder acknowledges that any money raised would be beneficial to the club, but not crucial.

“It is five percent of five percent, so no, for us that does not mean much”, said Kelder.

“Of course, every little bit helps. Anyway, we must first all wait and see.”
