Transfer news: The Reds must offload West Ham and Newcastle target Andy Carroll as well as Fulham target Charlie Adam before bringing in players
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted he will have to sell in order to bring in Arsenal rebel Theo Walcott.
The England forward has been in dispute with the club over a new contract, although a meeting with Arsene Wenger has cooled doubts about his future at the Emirates, although the Merseyside giants are monitoring the situation.
However, they would need to offload their unwanted players, which appear to be Charlie Adam and Andy Carroll, before making a bid.
“No. Not at this stage,” Rodgers said in response to being asked whether the club could afford to buy without selling first.
“Obviously, I have seen a lot of the links and it is great that those players would want to come here.
“But the reality is that we are not in a position to do those sorts of deals.”
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has played down suggestions he wants Rafael Benitez to be the club’s new head coach and claimed the delegation that visited England yesterday was hoping to secure an exchange deal with Manchester City for Edinson Cavani.
