Transfer news: Robin van Persie is no closer to the exit door at Arsenal, according to his manager
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted that the Gunners are no closer to selling Robin van Pesie to Manchester United or Manchester City.
Wenger was clearly exasperated when questioned on his unsettled captain’s future yesterday, following Arsenal’s 2-0 pre-season defeat to Man City in the latest fixture of their Asia tour.
“We have talked about Van Persie,” said Wenger.
“I have talked about Van Persie and I’m not talking about that question any more.”
28-year-old Van Persie has made clear his desire to leave the club, and is currently working on his fitness back in London instead of taking part in the tour.
“Van Persie is close to fitness,” Wenger continued. “But we have not had any more contact from City or United about him.”
Daggers boss Wayne Burnett back Gayle to succeed in Premier League if move arises.
