Transfer news: Leandro Damiao’s performances at London 2012 have caused a stir
Internacional have told Tottenham and Manchester City they will only let Brazil star Leandro Damiao leave the club for huge sums of money.
The 23-year-old has been in superb form for Brazil at London 2012, blasting six goals in four games to propel them to the final.
But Internacional president Giovanni Luigi insists they are a rich club and are under no pressure to sell Leandro Damiao for below his £47m release clause.
“I think it’s very hard for the transfer to happen unless Tottenham pay the €60million (£47m) buyout fee that is included in his contract,” Luigi told O Jogo.
“Leandro Damiao has four more years on his contract. He is a very well paid player and has nothing to complain about.
“And we don’t need to sell. We are a rich club with an enviable structure.”
Fernando Torres believes interim Chelsea manager Rafael Benitez deserves major credit for steering the west Londoners to Europa League glory and securing Champions League qualification.
