Trio tackle event as part of marathon training

Three Barking Road Runners tackled the Unusual Suspects Challenge in Gravesend, for different reasons, at the weekend.

The event is aimed to suit all abilities and fitness levels and involves a 3.75-mile lap that can be tackled as many times as runners wish.

Cristina and Trevor Cooper decided to ditch their usual marathon training plan to take part and, although they were scheduled to run 19 miles, took on the full marathon distance.

That ensured a 16th completed ‘marathon’ for Cristina Cooper, while Trevor chose to tackle one more lap for an Ultra badge.

Clubmate Faye Spooner was also in action and completed the second of her 12 marathons in 12 months target.

Other Barking members stayed closer to home to take part in local parkruns, with Andy Preston leading the way at Barking in 22 minutes 10 seconds.

Diarmuid Mac Donnell clocked 20.12 at Valentines, while Paul Ward (21.49) and Vicky Cooper (22.18) ran the Gunpowder and Chippenham parkruns, respectively.

Others, Barking: Barry Culling 23.25; Chris Muthaka 24.36; Philip Ellul 24.49; Wayne McAllister 25.13; Dawn Blake 27.14; Alain Cooper 27.50; Alison Fryatt 28.50; Kresh Veerasamy 29.30; Jennifer Birch 29.33; Nikki Cranmer 29.43; Dennis Spencer–Perkins 32.46; Maria Bartlett 32.47; David Mottley 36.42; Lisa Maughan 38.55; Chris Anastasi 49.57.

Valentines: Paul Withyman 23.37; Mark Durrant 25.54; Rakesh Sandhu 29.47.
