Members oversee the launch of a new park run event
Barking Park was swept up in Olympic fever on Saturday as 14 Barking Road Runners members volunteered to help oversee the launch of the new Park Run Series.
Run over five kilometres – spanning two laps – 83 athletes competed in the weekly event, won by Evan Wynne of Newport Harriers in 16 minutes 39 seconds, while seven others broke the 19-minute barrier.
Barking themselves had four runners in the field, with Kieron Chapman first home in 25.39.
Micky Ball was next over the line in 30.03, Rory Marriott continued his return from injury clocking 35.42 and Melissa Lowndes competed in her first-ever Park Run setting a benchmark of 43.18.
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has played down suggestions he wants Rafael Benitez to be the club’s new head coach and claimed the delegation that visited England yesterday was hoping to secure an exchange deal with Manchester City for Edinson Cavani.
