Dagenham 88 Runners took on rivals from across the county at the Essex Cross-Country Championships at Great Notley in Braintree.

Athletes enjoyed a beautiful lunchtime race, with Dagenham’s Hannah Sheikh coming home in 41 minutes 55 seconds.

Rahana Islam clocked 42.49 in the women’s race, while Gary Coombes was the first Dagenham man home in 49.44.

Trevor Robinson (62.11), Mick Pegnall (70.00) and Ian Cummins (71.45) completed the Dagenham line-up, while Mick Brown took on the Greenwick 10k in 45.21.

Caroline Tuck tackled the King’s Forest 10k trail race, finishing in 48.48, and was first woman home at the latest Bury St Edmunds parkrun in 23.09.

Tuck had also completed a New Year’s Day parkrun double at Greenwich (23.13) and Bexley (24.02), while Coombes finished Wanstead (19.15) and Harrow Lodge (19.33).

A group of nine took on the Wanstead and Valentines runs, including Nils Hollmann (24.38, 24.47), Jamie Austin (26.09, 27.27), Hannah Sheikh (27.16, 26.00), Manji Gami (27.38, 28.02), Timi Veerasamy (29.46, 28.35), Louise Chappell (31.09, 29.41), Beverley Eagles (33.47, 33.24), Luke Summers (35.08, 34.41) and Sam Veerasamy (36.21, 34.58).

New member Pedro Costa was first to finish at the inaugural Nidda parkrun in Frankfurt, Germany in an impressive 18.13 ahead of clubmates Kerstin Costa (23.48), Sonya Veerasamy (28.12), Timi Veerasamy (28.20), Kresh Veerasamy (30.41) and Barking Road Runners’ Sam Veerasamy (35.29).
