Barking and Dagenham club runners enjoy their ELVIS swansongs at Valentines 5k!

Barking Road Runners and Dagenham 88 Runners brought the curtain down on the East London Five Interclub Series at the Valentines 5k.
The event was hosted by East London Runners, with Diarmuid Mac Donnell first home for Barking in 18mins 59secs.
Derv Bartlett (19.23) and Philip Ellul (19.48) were next home, as Mick Brown (21.39) led the Daggers contingent.
Also beating the 25-minute mark for the two local clubs were Ron Vialls (21.44), Gary Cardnell (22.39), Hannah Sheikh (23.10), Ian Cummins (23.18), Nils Hollmann (23.34), Charlotte Owen (23.54), James Lowndes (23.56), Rahana Islam (24.27), Andrew Gwilliam (24.28) and Jenny O’Hanlon (24.50).
Dagenham’s Louise Chappell (26.06), Timi Veerasamy (27.10), Yolanda Ceveria (27.08), Emma O’Shea (28.10) and Sonya Veerasamy (29.41) all went sub-30 minutes, along with Barking’s Gary Harford (25.13), Amanda Heslegrave (26.30), Antony Leckerman (27.29), Dennis Spencer-Perkins (27.39), debutant Jason Li (27.44), Thomas Coughlan (27.52) and Nikki Cranmer (29.46).
Completing Dagenham’s line-up were Christine Larnder (31.02), Mark West (31.07), Sam Veerasamy (34.35), Ronnie Waller (37.46) and Lee Davis (38.38).
And making up Barking’s squad were Robert Courtier (30.35), Kresh Veerasamy (30.42), Alison Fryatt (31.53), Chris Anastasi (33.49) and Micky Ball (36.03).
Points were also totted up and saw Natalie Traylen crowned women’s champion for Barking, ahead of Cristina Cooper and Cranmer.
Mac Donnell won the men’s internal prize, with Paul Ward and Leckerman completing the top three, and with two Grand Prix events to come, Paul Ward leads the way from Leckerman and Vialls, with Maxine Brown, Cranmer and Fryatt the leading ladies.
*Dagenham’s Jamie Austin, Mick Pegnall, Luke Summers and Jenny Akroyd combined at the Essex Cross-Country Relays at Halstead to come home in 1:44.58.
*Barking’s Jenny Birch and Ken Summerfield completed the Windsor half marathon, as Stuart and Rory Burr ran the Dunton on the Demon 5 in Basildon.
Dagenham’s David O’Brien (1:48.33), Saima Zeb (2:19.41), Lynne Northcott (2:25.07) and Emdad Rahman (2:22.21) ran the Ealing half marathon, as Mick Brown completed the Velopark duathlon in 65.16.
Christine Sloan covered the 10-mile Tough Mudder in 4:35.58, as Kelly Drake-Tapscott and Jackie Frewin completed the 100k Escape the City Ride in 4:55.
