Dagebham 88 Runners at Havering mid-week meeting

Two ELVIS league meetings in a week for Dagenham 88s

Dagenham 88 Runners’ Sam Monk brought home a third place in the first of two ELVIS League meetings held last week.

In the first event hosted by Havering 90 Joggers, Monk finished in an impressive 34 minutes and 48 seconds to take the women’s third prize and an overall 56th-place finish.

Nigel Swinburne led the team home in 15th spot clocking 30.11, closely followed by Sam Rahman in 30.47 for 21st.

Ian Cummins was 51st in a time of 34.21 with Gary Cardnell a place further back.

Bernard George was 58th in 35.18, Steve Ray took 67th in 36.48 and Jenny Akroyd finished in 76th spot in 37.24, with Malcolm Dennis 95th in 38.54.

Chris Howlett took 110th with Amanda Heslegrave a place further behind, while Michael Pegnall occupied 120th spot in 41.40.

Other clubs runners in the event included Laura Peskett, Wendy Saunders, Claire Howlett, Caroline Cummins, Tracey George, Sharon Steadman, Jacqueline Frewin, Timi Veerasamy, Doug Adams, Nicole Norman, Stephen Easley, John Power, Nicola Field, Julie Dalphinis, Joanne Barker, Kerry Rackham, Tracy Saffell, Sam Veerasamy, Lee Davis, Jane Swanson-Sprent and Karen Crighton.

Meanwhile, the club hosted their leg of the ELVIS League at the weekend, with Rahman and Swinburne again the club’s top athletes.

Rahman held off the challenge of Swinburne this time around, taking 12th place with 33.45, swiftly followed by Swinburne two seconds and a place further back.

Ian Cummins and Cardnell were next across the line for the club in 38th and 43rd place respectively before Jason Baker came home in 51st with a time of 39.21.

Rob Sargent finished 59th in 40.47, Akroyd was 78th in 42.34 and Malcolm Dennis finished 83rd with a time of 43.59. Pegnell and Heslegrave completed 88s’ athletes in the top 100 after coming home in 92nd and 93rd respectively.
