Top 10 finish at Horndon

Dagenham 88 Runners held their latest club race at Horndon on the Hill over 10k.

The generally flat route runs through the village and along surrounding country lanes and first home was Nigel Swinburne in eighth place, who finished in 38 minutes 27 seconds.

A few minutes behind was Ian Cummins (42:48) in 35th place, Samantha Monk in 41st (43:34) and Gary Cardnell 48th (44:14).

Fellow members Malcolm Dennis (108th, 49:06), Wendy Saunders (207th, 55:46), Caroline Cummins (213th, 56:07), Sharon Steadman (254th, 58:41), Tracey George (257th, 58:50), Timi Veerasamy (270th, 59:45), Doug Adams (307th, 62:18), Stephen Easley (310th, 62:29) and Lee Davis (353rd, 73:52) also completed the course.

The Barking and Dagenham Triathlon took place on the same day, with three members taking part.

The race began at the Becontree Heath Leisure Centre pool with a 400m swim, before a 20km bike ride around Dagenham and a 5km run in Central Park.

Triathlete Amanda Heslegrave was first home in one hour 29 minutes 29 seconds, finishing 31st overall.

Close behind was Kevin Brown in 35th place (1:31.48) and Jacqueline Frewin in 41st 1.39.17 (41st)

Club Captain Steve Easley took part in the Bedford Triathlon, which included a 750m lake swim, 20km bike ride and a 5km trail run.

Easley completed the course in 1:36.31 and managed to keep his transition time to a minimum.

The Valentine’s Park 5km series saw six members compete against 78 other runners in the weekly event.

Gary Cardnell was first over the line for the club in 10th place, finishing in 21 minutes 22 seconds.

Davis Goodson was next home in 27th, clocking 25:42, and Kresh Veerasamy (35th, 28:17), Timi Veerasamy (45th, 30:31), Anne Duggan (48th, 31:18) and Sam Veerasamy (63rd, 36:28) also took part.
