Czech Republic international returns for new season

Barking Abbey have re-signed guard Tereza Brantlova for the 2016-17 Women’s British Basketball League (WBBL) season.

The former Czech Republic junior international and Euroleague player brings valuable experience and shooting power to BA, and re-joins Diana Naydenova-Goryanova for their third season together.

“I feel honoured to be able to re-sign with BA for this upcoming season,” said Brantlova.

“It’s an excellent program for young players in England with incredible coaching staff and it’s my pleasure to help the team on and off the court and share my professional experiences.

“I don’t take any year for granted and I am very happy to be part of Barking Abbey family for another year.”

Brantlova averaged 9.8 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists in the WBBL Championship last year, while asserting herself as one of the top shooters in the league.

“It’s nice to see the improvement of young talented players every year,” she added.

“I believe we have enough quality to be able to compete with the best teams in the league. We need to stay healthy, work hard and be as consistent in our performance as possible during all year, team and individual wise. Going step by step should bring us the best possible results.”

Head coach Mark Clark is looking forward to having Brantlova back for another year, adding: “The experience and shooting threat Tereza brings is out of the top drawer.

“From when she was a world champion to now she has been an outstanding professional. She stretches the floor on offence as well as anyone in the league.”

Barking Abbey open the 2016-17 WBBL Championship season in Manchester against the Mystics at the National Basketball Performance Centre on October 8 (3pm).
