Crystal Palace boss Dougie Freedman was disappointed for Wilfried Zaha
Crystal Palace manager Dougie Freedman insists that star man Wilfried Zaha should have been selected in Team GB’s Olympic squad.
19-year-old forward was on the shortlist for the side, however, Stuart Pearce decided to select Daniel Sturridge, Craig Bellamy, Marvin Sordell and Scott Sinclair as his forwards.
“We are very disappointed as a club as we felt he deserved to be in there for his performances,” Freedman told the Croydon Advertiser.
“We feel he should have made it.”
The Scot felt that Zaha, who is wanted by Liverpool, Newcastle, Sunderland and West Ham, would have benefited from training with the Team GB squad.
“Pre-season is about getting you fit and focused for the season, but I feel him being in the squad would have been good for him and would have done that,” Freedman added.
“He would have been doing the training with them and he would have been back for the start of the season.”
Zaha may, ultimately, be called up if Sturridge is ruled out through injury.
Transfer news: Scout and former sporting director of French club Monaco Tor-Kristian Karlsen has claimed that Liverpool are set to pip Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United to the signing of Schalke defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos.
