Dagenham Boxing club’s bright prospects George Landers and Conor McNicholas each collected three awards at the club’s successful presentation night, held at the Eastbrook function suite recently.

Landers claimed his three trophies after a successful season in which he took the London Schools’ ABA title and went on to reach the national semi-finals.

He collected the ‘Best Junior Boxer’ award – a tribute to the knowledgeable help of his coach James ‘King’ Cole, who took the same trophy as a boxer at the club and was awarded the ‘John Durrell Trainers Trainer’ award this year.

Top senior was undoubtably former club captain, Robin Dupré who reached this season’s senior elite ABA pre-quarter-finals – losing a closely-fought contest against ABA finalist Greg Bridet from Portsmouth.

“As a retired amateur moving into the pro ranks, Robin did not qualify for any club awards, but received best wishes from all at the club who will be supporting him on his debut.

“The club also thanked him for his long-serving endeavours at Dagenham,” said club secretary Danny O’Sullivan.

Dagenham’s rising ‘pocket rocket’, Kerim Agius, identified as a future champion, picked up the ‘Best Club Boxer’ award for his efforts on a bright night for the family.

Younger brother Tariq Agius was named top youngster from the club’s nursery group after making history at Dagenham’s recent ‘Olympic themed’ boxing night as the youngest ever member to compete on a licensed amateur boxing show.

Other popular members awarded for their efforts throughout the year were: Conor McNicholas, hailed as a real talent with a bright future, Louie Taylor, Robbie Silk and George Joyner.

Ebenezer Teferi follows Dupré as the new club captain and ‘Best Senior Boxer’ after a busy season, and looks set to start earning national honours in next season’s National Novice Championships.
