Coach Danny Kerry fights back tears as he makes emotional announcement of Olympic squad.

Canterbury player Natalie Seymour has missed out on a place in the Team GB Olympic hockey squad - but she has been named as one of two reserves.

The Euro Canterbury star had hoped to make the squad but has been named as a reserve along with goalkeeper Abi Walker by coach Danny Kerry.

Coach Danny Kerry fought back tears as he made the announcement earlier today.

He told Team GB’s official website: “Words cannot describe how difficult it has been to make the final decision in selecting this squad. Since we centralised our training programme in late 2009, our process has been continuous, making it our most thorough and exhaustive ever.

“We have chosen what we feel is the best combination of players for the challenges of the Olympic Games.

“Each and every one of the 28 athletes in the training group has committed so much and as a result we have the most powerful squad spirit I have ever known.

“I want to offer my congratulations to those that have been selected who I know will do our squad proud in London. I also want to offer my most heartfelt commiserations to those that have not been selected - they have given everything.”

There were major injury doubts over Reading forward Alex Danson and Leicester defender Crista Cullen after the test event at the Olympic Park earlier this month, but they have both been selected.

The full squad is: Squad: B Storry (GK), L Bartlett, A Danson, E Maguire, H Richardson, K Walsh (Reading), A Ball, N White (Slough); C Cullen, H Macleod, C Rogers, A Panter (Leicester), S Thomas (unattached); G Twigg (Clifton); L Unsworth (Loughborough Students); S Walton (Bowdon Hightown). Reserves: A Walker (GK), N Seymour (EuroCanterbury).
