Archant London sat down with tipster Martin Girdwood of Girdys Gees to look at day one of this year’s Festival

It’s day one of this year’s Cheltenham Festival and punters will be looking to get off to a winning start.

Archant London sat down with tipster Martin Girdwood of Girdys Gee Gees to take a look at some of the day’s bigger races.

In the Racing Post Arkle Challenge Trophy Steeple Chase, the second race of the day at 2.10pm, Martin has gone for Footpad, who is available at a best price of 5-4 at the time of writing.

The main race of the day is the fourth — the Unibet Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy at 3.30pm

Buveur D’Air, who won the race last year, is odds on to defend the title, but Martin has opted for My Tent Or Yours as an each-way bet, with a current best price of 20-1.

With the opening day of the festival upon us, hopefully Martin has provided a tip to get your Cheltenham off to a good start.
