Cricket: Essex start title defence in Yorkshire

Essex will begin the defence of their Specsavers County Championship title with a trip to new head coach Anthony McGrath’s former club Yorkshire on April 13.

The 2017 champions will then host Lancashire in their first home fixture of the new campaign at the cloudfm County Ground on April 20.

Essex visit Hampshire on April 27 and Worcestershire on May 11, after hosting Yorkshire on May 4.

Focus then turns to limited overs cricket, with Essex Eagles visiting Middlesex for the first of eight Royal London One-Day Cup group matches on May 17.

After returning to four-day action at Lancashire on June 9, Essex will welcome Nottinghamshire (June 20) and Somerset (June 25) in back-to-back home matches, before the T20 Blast gets underway with a home match against Sussex on July 4.

T20 Blast (home only): Sussex (July 4), Middlesex (July 6), Glamorgan (July 13), Hampshire (July 21), Surrey (August 5), Gloucestershire (August 10), Kent (August 17).
