Daggers squad has the belief to reach League Two play-offs, says Saah

Dagenham & Redbridge defender Brian Saah insists the belief is in the squad to overhaul the five-point gap which currently separates them from a spot in the League Two play-offs.

Daggers picked up a precious three points with a much-needed 1-0 home win over Oxford United last Saturday to give them a fighting chance of reaching the end of season showdown.

It was their first home victory since New Year’s Day and even though the form at Victoria Road had dipped of late, the 27-year-old insisted the belief to reach the play-offs has never faded.

“The three points against Oxford was massive,” said Saah. “That closed the gap on the teams above us and it was important it didn’t get any bigger.

“There’s six games to go now but we’ll keep plugging away and see what happens. There is a belief in the squad, that never went away even though we have had a few blips and were not getting the results that we wanted.

“We still kept going and we are now only five points off with six games to go. A lot can happen so we have given ourselves a great opportunity.”

The win effectively seals their spot in the Football League for another season, but they continue to look up the table.

Four of the remaining six games for the Daggers come against the bottom four sides, starting at Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

At any other stage of the season that would be an encouraging sign, but Saah knows the Daggers have to remain focused.

“I don’t think there are any easy games at this stage of the season because there is so much to play for,” he added.

“Teams are fighting for their lives at the bottom and there are a few others who still believe they can make the play-offs. Those that are in the play-offs want to stay in there as well.

“This is the business stage of the season so for us we have got to stay focused and keep pushing on.”
