Hollie Richardson and her Elite Tang Soo Do club-mates swept the board at the London Championships
The Elite Tang Soo Do karate club swept the board at the London Championships last weekend, winning 15 trophies to take back to Dagenham.
Fresh from a successful trip to Germany last month, 20 members of the Dagenham Park School-based club competed a little closer to home at the Castle Green Leisure Centre in Gale Street, but proved just as triumphant.
Eight-year-old Hollie Richardson led the way with two first-place finishes to add to her European title won last month.
There were winners medals too for Emma Shaw, 17, Danny Reason, 13, Connor Moore, 17 and Nicholas Eke, 11 as the club enjoyed success over three separate categories in open hand forms (kata), weapons forms and sparring.
Club instructor Stuart Reason said: “I am very proud of the whole club.
Trophy
“We had some very young students aged five to seven who were entering their first championships and nearly all of them won a trophy of some kind.
“Since coming back from Germany the club has had a great momentum to it with new students joining most weeks.
“We are now looking forward to the Dagenham Town Show where we will be sharing a float with Barking Abbey School-based Manor Netball Club and following the Olympic Torch to Central Park on an historic day for both clubs.”
The successful squad included: Emma Shaw, Connor Moore, Nicholas Eke, Hollie Richardson, Danny Reason, Tyler Drain, Joshua Sands, Jay Smith, Andrew Paddon, Georgia Steele, Lewis Richardson, Danielle Paddon, Jason Paddon, Freddie Steele, Jacob Sands, Georgi Alexiev, Veronica Stoyanova, Louis Sands, Freddie May, Freddie Marsden.
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has played down suggestions he wants Rafael Benitez to be the club’s new head coach and claimed the delegation that visited England yesterday was hoping to secure an exchange deal with Manchester City for Edinson Cavani.
