Inconsistent Barking fell to a second successive home defeat against the Dockers at Mayesbrook Park on Tuesday night.

Having suffered a 2-1 loss to Maldon & Tiptree at the weekend, Justin Gardner’s men found themselves behind after only 10 minutes in midweek.

Tom Anderson advanced on goal for the visitors and sent a dipping effort over the head of Emmanuel Olajide to break the deadlock.

And that was how it finished as neither side could add to the scoreline in the 80-plus minutes that remained.

Having started the season with four successive defeats, before back-to-back wins over Romford and Mildenhall Town, Barking have now slipped two places to 14th, as Great Wakering Rovers and Mildenhall Town won their fixtures.

Gardner’s men will play a friendly against Bostik South side FC Romania on Saturday (2pm kick-off), ahead of their next league match at home against Dereham on Saturday week (October 6).

Barking: Olajide, Tarbard, Obafemi (Kamara 76), Cohen (Akanbi 75), Bruce, McQueen, Ighorae, Seymour, Russell, Cheema, Ocran (Ogunwamide 65). Unused subs: Peart, Edwards.

Attendance: 68.
