Barking 1 Basildon United 0

Barking got the better of promotion rivals Basildon thanks to James Peagram’s second-half goal at Mayesbrook Park.

Former Blues player Sipho Mtyanda headed the first chance of note wide for the visitors, who saw three other good opportunities go begging and also hit the post before the break.

But the home side made a bright start to the second half and captain Ben O’Brien went close before Peagram unleashed a powerful effort that the Bees keeper could not keep out just before the hour.

Barking went close to a second goal, before Brad Warner flashed a shot wide at the other end, but the home side were reduced to 10 men when Jay Taylor was dismissed for a second bookable offence.

Mtyanda saw his cross stabbed just wide as Basildon looked to bring themselves level late on, but Blues held on to move level on points with fifth-placed Bowers.

Glen Golby’s side host Wadham Lodge on Tuesday.

Barking: J Willis, Taylor, Foster, Joe Bricknell (Staunton 84), Golby, O’Brien, Appiah (Bradbury 64), S Willis, Peagram, Pearman, John Bricknell (English 75). Unused subs: Tarbard, Reynolds.

Sporting Bengal 1 Greenhouse 0

One goal proved enough for Sporting Bengal as well to extend their unbeaten run to four matches.

In-form Yacine Teladjati netted the only goal of the game at Mile End Stadium to earn the points for Anwar Uddin’s men, as Greenhouse saw Emmanuel Steven dismissed for two bookable offences.

Stansted 4 Clapton 3

Clapton slumped to a fifth successive defeat after letting a 3-0 lead slip at Hargrave Park.

The visitors were in superb form in the first half and Nathan Cook netted their third goal on 35 minutes to seemingly secure the points.

But the Airportmen took off after the restart, netting four unanswered goals to turn the match on its head and claim victory that moved them level on points with Tons in mid-table.

Substitute Thomas Lakin began the fightback midway through the second half, with Tom Hollanby netting Stansted’s second soon after.

Matthew Ashwell levelled things up on 80 minutes, just two minutes after coming off the bench, and David Ratcliffe struck the winner with one minute left in normal time.

Shellshocked Clapton host high-flying Basildon on Tuesday.

*Newham bounced back from their humbling loss at FC Romania on Thursday night to earn a point from a 0-0 draw at Southend Manor.

But Ilford suffered a surprising home defeat against Burnham Ramblers, going down 4-2 at Cricklefield Stadium.

Thomas Anderson hit a hat-trick for the visitors, with Charlie Kirby also on target against the Foxes.
