Call to support International Women’s Day

Latest news from the Essex FA
Women in Football (WiF) and the Essex FA are asking grassroots football clubs to join them in celebrating female employees, volunteers and supporters ahead of International Women’s Day on Sunday (March 8).
In a month-long campaign backed by Everyday Sexism, Twitter accounts @WomenInFootball and @EssexCounty will be using social media to champion female talent with the hashtag #SheBelongs, as well as highlighting discrimination and how to report it through #ShameOnTheGame.
The aim is to raise awareness of sexist abuse, particularly on matchdays, and clubs in Essex are being asked to actively assisting in tackling this issue.
Staff at the Essex FA’s County Office in Chelmsford have already shown their support for the campaign by wearing special International Women’s Day T-Shirts, and C & K Basildon layers will do the same before their match with Cambridge on the day itself.
WiF have highlighted several other ways clubs can get involved:
Matchday Programme Insert: A customisable programme template is available where clubs can profile an inspirational female volunteer, supporter or player who has made an invaluable contribution. WiF will share pages via social media for those who tweet @WomenInFootball using the hashtag #SheBelongs or E-Mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Reporting Sexism: Make supporters aware that sexist abuse and discrimination can be reported anonymously to WiF. Promoting this information via the advert or through any other media would be really valuable in contributing to raising awareness of sexism.
Steward’s Briefing Note: A ‘Steward’s Briefing Note’ has been developed using expert advice from the industry, and it’s already been successfully piloted at a Premier League club this season. It can be used to educate stewards or club officials on what to look out for during matchdays.
