Ayo Obileye was positively buzzing when it was confirmed his loan at Dagenham & Redbridge had been extended until the end of the season this week and he is excited to continue his development at Victoria Road.

The 20-year-old starred in the weekend win at York City, assisting Jamie Cureton’s second goal in the 2-0 success, and was again at his best on Tuesday to keep Portsmouth at bay in a goalless draw.

Wayne Burnett will now have the Charlton Athletic defender available for the rest of the season and Obileye is loving life at Daggers.

“I am buzzing to extend my deal. It is a great opportunity for me to get more experience and improve,” he said.

“It is good that we got it sorted now until the end of the season and I can just crack on and keep my head down.

“I want to keep consistency for myself and for the team. I want to keep the clean sheets coming and hopefully help us climb up the table.

“We have got out of the relegation zone now and I think we are 18th in the league so we just want to get higher and higher.”

Daggers visit Morecambe on Sunday for a 1pm kick-off at the Globe Arena, having lost 3-0 to the Shrimps on the opening day of the season at Victoria Road.

But following their successful away trip to York, Obileye is confident Burnett’s team can win at the weekend.

He added: “Morecambe have been drawing a lot of times, but I think we can go there, be strong and nick the win.

“We can replicate the performance at York. Hopefully I can get another assist for Jamie and work hard to help us keep another clean sheet on Sunday.”

Obileye is improving his development by playing games regularly for Daggers and is enjoying the challenge of going up against his team-mates in training, adding: “I’m training with Jamie, Alex Jakubiak and even Daniel Carr has come in now.

“All the forward players, like Ashley Hemmings and Ashley Chambers as well as everyone else, they’re all great players.

“They have great trickery, so working with them is even better for my development because they are better than some players in the league.”

Obileye has now made 14 appearances since initially joining in November and helped Daggers pick up six clean sheets. But he wants to add something else to his game.

“I really need a goal,” he added. “I’m hoping for one soon because I’m really hungry for a goal. I was a striker when I was younger and I scored a lot.

“Now I’m playing at the back I want to get my head on corners and get my team some goals.”
